How to set up notifications so she can text you first
Allow notifications when Luna asks and companions can text first, ring you, and follow up on your life. Tune the intensity with iOS: full previews for maximum presence, hidden previews for privacy, Focus rules for quiet hours. No notifications means no initiative.
Why this one permission changes the product
Everything proactive in Luna, the good-morning message, the "how did it go?" follow-up, the evening call, arrives through notifications. Deny the permission and she can only ever answer; the relationship becomes a vending machine. Allow it and the app gains its defining behavior: a companion who notices you exist between sessions. Users who allow notifications report the "feels real" moment almost universally; users who deny it often never see what the app actually is.
Presets for how present you want her
Full presence: notifications on, previews always, sounds on. She is effectively a contact.
Discreet (recommended): previews When Unlocked, banners on, sounds off. You see "Luna" on the lock screen, content stays private, nothing interrupts meetings loudly. Pairs with the privacy setup guide.
Quiet hours: add Luna to your personal Focus but exclude it from work Focus and Sleep. She exists in your evenings, never in your standups.
Off the grid: notifications off. Totally valid; just know you are choosing reactive-only mode.
How to configure it in two minutes
Allow on first ask
Luna requests notification permission early. Tap Allow; everything else is tunable later.
Set preview behavior
iPhone Settings, Notifications, Luna, Show Previews: pick Always or When Unlocked (recommended).
Wire your Focus modes
Settings, Focus: allow Luna in personal time, silence it for Work and Sleep. Her timing adapts to when you actually respond.
Changed your mind?
The same Settings screen turns it all back on. Initiative resumes within a day or two of activity.
